An Italian artist, possibly his greatest masterpiece transports you to Heaven!
"The builder of Burghley"

Described by Lord Essex in a letter to Queen Elizabeth as "The greatest and most esteemed Councillor that ever your majesty had".

This more than competent gardener showed his capability in architecture and landscaping. His contribution to Burghley includes the landscaping of the gardens and park, the stables, the Orangery and the Lion Bridge over the lake.
This local scientist, apple of his mother's eye, looks as though his wig was one of the first victims of gravity.
The inscription which the Cecil family had on his memorial tablet in the Burghley Chapel in St. Martin's church, Stamford reads
"For many years the intrepid leader of the Conservative party, the patriotic servant of his country and a true and valued friend at Burghley house.
1804 - 1881"
Affectionately known as "Dizzy"
Clue - NOT Margaret Thatcher!
